For the next 3 Tuesdays, a repeat of selections from Ben Goldfarb’s terrific book,

Eager,

The Surprising Secret Life of Beavers and Why They Matter. If you don’t love wetlands now, I sure do hope to nudge you with these readings. As Ben writes in Eager, “Trying to mitigate floods or improve water quality? There’s a beaver for that. Hoping to capture more water for agriculture in the face of climate change? Add a beaver.  Concerned about sedimentation, salmon populations, wildfire? Take 2 families of beaver and check back in a year. “Ben also wrote the greast book  Crossings, How Road Ecology is Shaping the Future of Our Planet.  He has written extensively for High Country News and his writing has appeared in The Atlantic, National Geographic, Washington Post, NY Times, Science and many other publications.

He is a wonderful writer who dives deep and tells great stories.Today, we also hear Annie Proulx. I’ll be reading from a New Yorker article; Swamps Can Protect Against Climate Change, If We Only Let Them.

She is best known for her Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award winner The Shipping News, and her short story, Brokeback Mountain.
