I interrupt my reading of Muir to talk about and read an essay, Exquisite Hours, by Ken Lange who died Nov 8th in Baraboo. His obituary can be found here; https://baldwinfuneralservices.com/obituaries.html. I highly recommend you read it.
Born in 1934, he lived a remarkable life traveling world wide as a biologist, then settling in the Baraboo Hills as the first naturalist hired by Wisconsin state parks. He was the shining light at Devils Lake State Park for 30 years, and devoted his whole being to learning and teaching about all the life there and all the forces that sustain life. He wrote many books. I read in April of 2023, his essay Exquisite Hours, published in the Wisconsin Society for Ornithology’s quarterly publication The Passenger Pigeon in 2002.
‘I rebroadcast that beautiful essay here to honor him and those who mourn his loss.
