This week, part 3 of my reading from the extensive interview with George Knudsen, born in 1922, near Easton Wi., from the book Afield, Portraits of Wisconsin Naturalists, Empowering Leopold’s Legacy, Vol 1. by Sumner Matteson. I’ve read about many people from this book. It is available on Amazon and published by Little Creek Press, Mineral Point Wi. in 2020.

Here are stories about his research on bears, his deep artistic interest,  and work as our state naturalist in our state parks, where he combined public education, ecology and art with labeled trail design to enhance our visits to our beautiful  parks.  And last, a deeply moving coincidence, during a visit to the cemetery where Frank Lloyd Wright was buried, (for a time), not far from Taliesin.

Sumner conducted this interview in 1984
