Carol Zitzner Hubbard was born on May 12, 1931, on a farm near West Prairie, Wisconsin. She graduated from Viroqua High School in 1948 and Vernon County Normal School in 1950. Her first teaching job was at Sunnyside Rural School from 1950–1955. On May 28, 1955, she married Lowell Hubbard, a Vernon County Deputy Sheriff. Lowell and Carol raised three children in Viroqua: Cyndy, Candace, and David.
Carol graduated from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in June 1959, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. Carol retired in 1991 after teaching for 36 years, 29 of which were as a second grade teacher at Viroqua Area Schools in Viroqua, Wisconsin.
